It is estimated that Raphael painted “Portrait of Young Woman with Unicorn” about 1506. The painting depicts Saint Catherine of Alexandria as she sits holding a Unicorn, a symbol of purity in medieval times. The work is often noted to be inspired by Mona Lisa, both with regards to the composition and the pose of the lady. The estimated age of the painting should thus also be seen in relation to that the Mona Lisa was painted in the period 1503-06.
“Portrait of Young Woman with Unicorn” can currently be found at the Galleria Borghese In Rome, Italy.
