Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous oil painting of the ‘Virgin Of The Rocks’
Created by famed Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci, The Virgin Of The Rocks which is also known as Madonna Of The Rocks was painted around 1483-86. Two similar paintings were created, one which hangs in the Louvre (as featured on this page) and the second is housed in the National Art Gallery Of London.
On public display at the Louvre in Paris this version of the Virgin Of The Rocks work of art is universally attribuated to Leonardo Da Vinci, whilst the London version may have been painted in parts by his assistant. The Louvre painting is regarded as a perfect example of Leonardo’s “sfumato” technique.
