Church in Cassone or ‘Kirche in Cassonewas painted around 1913,  landscape with Cypresses while he was on holiday in Italy with his lover and muse Emilie Klöge.  First believed to have been looted by retreating German forces the oil painting turned up at an exhibition in 1962.  The original canvas dimensions are 110cm X 110cm (43.5 in by 43.5 in).  Is now housed in a private art collection.

The painting depicts a church which was observed from a high view point in Malcesine, Lake Garda, in the northern Italian region.  Klimt had to use a telescope to paint the image onto canvas.
