Kinkade, Thomas

Thomsen Kinkade (1958 - )

Popular American painter Thomas Kinkade is most famous for his mainly idyllic depictions of American settings like cottages, streams, gardens and main streets. Many of these settings are found around his home town of Placerville. His art is characterized by its glowing use of highlights and saturated pastel colors. As a devout Christian, Kinkade also includes Christian themes and symbols in his art. His stated objective with his work is to convey inspirational, life-affirming messages to the viewer.

Kinkade mass-markets his works through printed reproductions and other forms of licensing. This has made him about the most widely distributed artists ever, with an estimated 1 in 20 American homes featuring some kind of Kinkade art.
